The Iniquity of the Fathers

       I do not believe that we have anything to worry about the sins of our fathers presenting an obstacle to our own moral development.  If we are raised in the Word (meaning if our fathers and mothers read the Bible to us regularly and took us to a Bible believing church every Sunday), then there is anything to fear whatsoever.  Rather, we need to fear solely our own attitude, our own propensity to sin and our pride, out potential to refuse the offer of Christ, to repent and believer on Him.  This should be our sole concern.          Exodus, below, illustrates that God is concerned not with the sins of your fathers, but your own sins.   From Got Questions Dot Org:         Does God punish people for the sins of their fathers (or mothers)?  No. He does not. You can only be punished for your own sin. You do not need to worry that you may somehow "inherit" your par...

2 Kings 5 :: Naaman Takes a Bath

Dear Ashley,                                                                      11 April 2024                         9. So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha. 10 And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. 11 But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the Lord his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper. 12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned...

Walking to School

 The Art of Persuasion:      I envision learning centers ensconced within the projects, the at-risk mutli-family dwelling communities in North Raleigh where I used to bus kids from to schools here in Wake Forest, North Carolina. And these learning centers would be funded by the Wake County Public school system.  Hence the need for powers of persuasion.  Children Need Neighborhoods Where They Can Walk and Bike We’ve lost the art of creating local infrastructure that allows young people to explore, play and lead healthier lives. Whatever Happened to Walking to School? Those of us who remember using our own legs for transit now run the risk of sounding Abe Lincolnesque.

Seven Questions

  1. Are you still studying French? 2. How are you doing?  How have you been? 3. How are you teeth? 4. How can I help you? 5.  Will you Keep Lambton Avenue, please? 6. Will you help Nathaniel to get better nutrition and to start a weight lifting program?

Have you been studying French? Question Response

Dear Ashley                                                                                                 24 April 2024       You asked me via text last summer about whether I had followed up on my earlier expressed interest in French.  I believe that you, like your mother, are relatively strong in your innate intuitive powers. Accordingly, it was a delight to me when you texted me that you had honed in on that one option and asked the question, "Have you had time to study French?"      I evinced your love, having concern that I do follow up on something I earlier, some months before, had texted you, mixed in with several other things. I had texted that seeking teacher certification in Fren...

What Is Love?

Image
The Constitution & Structure of Love   A. Love Fights:  Every day we live in a battleground of spiritual warfare. The man who loves is keenly aware of this, and so lives accordingly.  Love fights for what is right, to herald the Kingdom of our Sovereign LORD, Jesus.      Christ and Christ alone is our model of love. We worship what Jesus said concerning love, and we beg the Lord to send His Spirit to empassion us, enabling us to strive mightily to embody the actions, commands, and moral lessons from His parables, so that our lights shall so shine before men that they cannot but see that "we have been with Jesus," and see some ineffaceable aspects of the glory, beauty, and wonders, of God.  In this, we work out our salvation with fear and trembling.         "God is love."  (John 4:8)  God had all power in creating the universe, but He chose to limit His power over human beings, in giving them free will. We have fr...

Haiku From the Night of 25 March 2024

                                  Monday 25 March 2024          Haiku 1:  Burning Heart                                   My heart burns with love.           I see people every day.           We were made to love.  Brother Christopher:  Haiku 2:   The central line provides the implied object of the last line: "we were made to love [people].” The repetition of "love" forms an inclusio with the first line, where the verb, in grammatical contrast, is intransitive. The elision of the object in the last line parallels the lack of an object in the first line. The end of each line modifies the main verb with a two-word dependent clause: burns (with love), see (every day), made (to love).Linguis...
